Yaoyi received a full scholarship to pursue a degree in architecture at Cooper Union. In 2018, she won the David Yurnall Award by her thesis works, which is also included in Wallpaper* Magazine. Later, her works were exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Architecture Biennale of Texas, San Diego and Venice etc. She designed and developed a large-scale real-time 3D printer "Instant Lounge" in 2019, which was exhibited at the Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism\Architecture for Shenzhen & Hongkong She used to teach at the New York Institute of Technology School of Architecture, Cooper Union STEM, UIC in Barcelona and Jilin University in Zhuhai.
